Piano By Ear - Six Minor Usage
By Matthew Stephens
Six minor (6m) is used when a pianist is moving from a 1 to a 2 or a 1 to a 5. In the key of C, a 6m is Am. Therefore when moving from C to D or C to G in a song, you can use Am. This will make your songs sound richer and fuller. An example of this can be found in the simple song “Amazing Grace”.
C F C Amazing Grace how sweet the sound D7 G - G7 that saved a wretch like me C F C I once was lost but now I’m found G C was blind but now I see.
Can you tell where to play the Am chord using the information I gave you above? If you said on the word “that” and on the word “blind” you are RIGHT! Congratulations!
