Have Guitar, Will Travel
By Gerard Hiner
Travel Guitars are acoustic or electric guitars that are simply smaller and lighter. This makes them very easy to transport when traveling. Now you can take your guitar with you just about anywhere you go. No reason to miss out on quality practice time when away from home.
Many new travel guitars play and sound amazing! Here are some of my favorite acoustic models:
Baby Taylor - Is a three-fourths-scale acoustic guitar with a solid Sitka spruce top coupled with a durable sapele laminate arched back, and packs a heap of tone into a small body.
Breedlove Passport - I am a big fan of Breedlove as ALL Breedlove guitar are made to very high standards and play/sound amazing! Built around a small concert-shaped body with smooth cutaway, the Atlas C25 features a short 19″ scale length for extreme portability. Tuned to A, it delivers a surprisingly big sound thanks to the expertly braced solid Western red cedar top and 3-1/3″ deep mahogany body. It has black binding, abalone rosette with black border, offset abalone Breedlove pattern fingerboard inlays, satin finish, hand-rubbed neck, and chrome tuners. It comes with L.R. Baggs electronics for instant amplified sound.
Martin Backpacker - This guitar is probably the easiest to travel with and the funkiest looking guitar out of the bunch. High-Quality enclosed chrome tuners, solid woods and special, light top bracing. The top is spruce. The neck, back and sides are all mahogany just like the best made dreadnoughts. As strange as it looks, the Backpacker has a surprisingly loud and rich tone. For long hauls in the car or bus, camping and lots of other times when you don’t have room for a full-sized acoustic, the Backpacker is the ideal solution. Comes with strap and High-Quality Gig Bag.
For Electric Travel Guitars for me there is only one choice. The Fernandes Nomad! Great guitar to play and travel with. The new models even come with a built in amp! Now that is the complete package for travel guitars!
